Word to PDF Converter

You finished a CV, an assignment or a letter in Word and the recipient wants a PDF. On a PC with Microsoft Office that is one click — but not on a borrowed laptop, a Chromebook, a phone, or a machine with only a Word viewer. And uploading a CV or contract to an unknown converter is not ideal.

This converter reads .docx, .odt and .rtf files directly in your browser and produces a PDF without uploading anything. For DOCX it uses mammoth.js to read the document's structure — headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, bold and italic, and embedded images — then lays it out on pages at the size and margins you choose.

Be clear about the trade-off: this is a structure-based conversion, not a pixel-perfect copy of Word's layout. The content comes through cleanly, but Word-specific design such as custom fonts, text boxes, headers and footers, columns and exact page breaks is re-laid out rather than reproduced.

The pages are rendered as high-quality images inside the PDF, so the result looks the same on every device, but its text cannot be selected or searched. If you need Word's exact layout with selectable text, use Word's own File → Save As → PDF, or Google Docs → Download → PDF.

How It Works

1. Choose your document — .docx (Word 2007 and later), .odt (LibreOffice/OpenOffice) or .rtf, up to 50 MB. Old .doc files get a clear message asking you to save them as .docx first.
2. Pick the layout — page size (A4, Letter, Legal, A3), margins, base text size and text colour. A preview shows how the content will flow.
3. Convert — the document is converted to structured HTML (mammoth.js for DOCX, a built-in parser for ODT and RTF), laid out page by page, each page is rendered at high resolution and assembled into a PDF with PDF-Lib.

Unsupported Formats

Legacy binary .doc files (Word 97–2003) can't be read in a browser — open them in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and save as .docx. Headers and footers, text boxes, shapes, multi-column layouts, comments, tracked changes and custom fonts are not reproduced exactly. Password-protected documents must be unlocked in Word first.

For layout-exact, text-searchable PDFs, Word's own export is the right tool. To go the other way, use PDF to Word.

File Size Limits

One document at a time, up to 50 MB. Long documents with many images take longer to render; a 50-page text document typically converts in well under a minute on a laptop.
