Wide margins waste space everywhere a PDF is read on a small screen: academic papers on a phone, slides exported with big borders, scanned pages with a white frame, or e-books formatted for print. Zooming in and panning around every page gets tiring fast.
This tool finds the area on each page that actually contains content and trims the empty margin around it. Auto-detection renders each page, scans the pixels for non-white content and places the crop box a little outside it; you can also set the crop manually, apply it to all pages, the current page or a page range, and use one uniform crop for every page so the document stays consistent.
Trimming changes the page boxes (CropBox and MediaBox), not the content. Text stays selectable and searchable, and vector graphics stay sharp β nothing is converted into images.
The whole process runs in your browser with PDF.js (to render and detect) and PDF-Lib (to rewrite the page boxes). Your PDF is not uploaded.
On a 6-inch phone screen, trimming a typical journal article's 2.5 cm margins makes the text about a quarter larger at the same zoom β the difference between squinting and reading comfortably. The same trick helps when printing slides several to a page or fitting scanned receipts onto a report.
How It Works
- Open a PDF β the first page is shown in a preview with navigation for the rest.
- Detect or set the crop β auto mode renders each page at low resolution, finds the bounding box of non-white pixels using the threshold and edge sensitivity you set, and adds a small safety margin. Manual mode lets you enter top, right, bottom and left crop values. Choose all pages, the current page, a range, or one uniform crop.
- Save β PDF-Lib sets the new CropBox and MediaBox on each affected page and writes the trimmed PDF for download.
Compatibility & Support
Supported Input β Output Formats
- Input: standard PDFs β text documents, slides, scans, e-books
- Output: the same PDF with trimmed page boundaries; text and vectors unchanged
- Scope: all pages, current page, page range, or uniform crop
Unsupported Formats
Scans with grey or speckled backgrounds may not trim well automatically β raise the threshold or use manual mode. Because cropping hides content rather than deleting it, the trimmed areas still exist in the file; use Redact PDF if something must be permanently removed. Password-protected PDFs need Unlock PDF first.
File Size Limits
Large documents are processed page by page. Auto-detection renders every page, so a 300-page PDF takes noticeably longer than a 10-page one; uniform crop mode is quicker for long, consistently laid-out documents.
The saved file is about the same size as the original, since only the page boundaries change.
Who Should Use This Tool?
- Students: A student trims the wide margins from journal articles so they read comfortably on a phone or small tablet.
- Freelancers & Designers: A designer removes the white border from exported artwork PDFs before sending them for web use.
- Office Professionals: An administrator trims scanned forms with large white frames so they print larger on the page.
- Developers: A developer trims generated report PDFs to their content area for embedding as figures.
Key Features / Khusoosiyat
Here's what separates this tool from generic alternatives:
Auto-Detection
Finds the content area on each page automatically.
Manual Crop
Set exact margins for full control.
Uniform Mode
One crop for all pages keeps page sizes consistent.
Text Stays Text
Only page boxes change β nothing is rasterized.
Page Ranges
Apply to all pages, one page or a range.
No Upload
Your PDF is processed in the browser.
Why This Tool Beats the Alternatives
- Keeps text selectable and graphics sharp, unlike tools that re-render pages as images.
- Private β nothing is uploaded.
- Auto and manual modes plus uniform cropping.
- Free, no watermark, no account.
- Clear about what cropping does and doesn't remove.
Pro Tips
- For reading on a phone, use uniform mode so page sizes don't jump between pages.
- If page numbers or headers get cut off, lower the edge sensitivity or add a larger margin in manual mode.
- For documents that should also be smaller in file size, trim first and then compress.
