Crop Image

Crop photos with a draggable box, exact pixel values and ready-made social media aspect ratios.

Runs in your browser. Files and text you add here are processed on your own device with JavaScript and are not uploaded to our server. Some tools download a free open-source library (for example PDF.js or QPDF) from a public CDN the first time you use them. Very large files depend on your device's memory.

Cropping fixes more photos than any filter: cut out a messy background, straighten the composition, or get the exact shape a platform wants β€” square for a profile picture, 16:9 for a YouTube thumbnail, 9:16 for Stories, 1.91:1 for a link preview.

This tool lets you draw the crop area directly on the image with mouse or touch, lock it to a preset aspect ratio, and fine-tune it with exact X, Y, width and height values in pixels. The cropped image is saved at full resolution β€” nothing is scaled down.

Because everything happens in your browser, it's safe for ID documents, screenshots with personal information, and anything else you would rather not upload to a random website.

The pixel fields are there for repeatable jobs. If you crop the same region from twenty screenshots of the same app, type the numbers once and reuse them; the preview updates as you type, so you can see the result before you save.

How It Works

  1. Open one image β€” JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF and more. A preview appears with a dashed crop box covering 80% of the picture.
  2. Set the crop β€” drag across the preview to draw a new area (the aspect-ratio preset constrains the shape), or type exact pixel coordinates. The darkened overlay shows what will be removed.
  3. Save β€” the selected region is copied from the full-resolution original onto a new canvas and encoded in the format you choose.

Compatibility & Support

Supported Input β†’ Output Formats

  • Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC, SVG, AVIF
  • Output: same format, JPG, PNG or WebP
  • Presets: free, 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, 4:5, 9:16, 1.91:1

Unsupported Formats

One image at a time β€” cropping needs you to look at each picture. For resizing many images to the same dimensions, use the Image Resizer. Animated GIFs are cropped as a single frame. Circular crops aren't offered; crop to 1:1 and let the platform apply the circle, as Instagram, WhatsApp and LinkedIn do.

File Size Limits

One image per crop, up to 60 MB. Very large photos (over about 50 megapixels) may exceed what a phone browser can hold in memory.

The crop box itself has no minimum beyond one pixel, but platforms do: Instagram recommends at least 1080 px on the short side, YouTube thumbnails 1280 Γ— 720, and LinkedIn link images 1200 Γ— 627. The pixel fields show the exact size you are about to save, so you can check before downloading.

Who Should Use This Tool?

  • Students: A student crops a group photo to a 1:1 square for a university ID upload that rejects rectangular images.
  • Freelancers & Designers: A YouTuber crops a frame grab to exactly 1280 Γ— 720 for a thumbnail using the 16:9 preset and pixel fields.
  • Office Professionals: A compliance officer crops a screenshot so only the relevant table is shared, removing names in the sidebar before emailing it.
  • Developers: A developer crops UI screenshots to consistent regions for documentation by typing the same X/Y/width/height for each capture.

Why This Tool Beats the Alternatives

  • No upload β€” crop IDs and private screenshots with peace of mind.
  • Exact pixel control that most simple croppers lack.
  • Platform presets built in; no need to remember aspect ratios.
  • No watermark, sign-up or quality reduction.
  • Works on phones with touch dragging.

Pro Tips

  • Crop first, then resize: crop to the right shape with a preset, then use the resizer to hit an exact pixel size.
  • For link previews on Facebook and LinkedIn, the 1.91:1 preset at 1200 Γ— 628 px avoids automatic cropping by the platform.
  • Leave a little breathing room around faces; platforms often overlay buttons or text near the edges.
